Rarity is a sweet, kind, and caring pony who is level headed and down to earth and-PFFFFFFFFFFFTTTTAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAAHAHAHA!
Ok, I seriously can't say that with a straight face because the pony I'm going to talk about is different than what we expect to hear of multicolored ponies living in the land of rainbows. While Rarity does care about her fellow ponies, she is far from down to earth or level headed; in fact her ego beats the size of Canterlot! She is fashion and style, grace and beauty, and any kind of dirt can BURN IN HELL.
...I'm done now. Time to get serious for a minute.
To describe Rarity are the following: Fashionista. Generous. Hates dirt with a passion. Big ego. Typical Big Sister. Kind and sometimes thoughtful. All these words and phrases do describe this unicorn to a T and she wouldn't have it any other way. Ponies might assume by first impression that Rarity is some rich snob that somehow found herself in some backwater town like Ponyville but in fact, she has lived there all her life. Different elements make Rarity an interesting character that makes others turn their heads out of curiosity.
Rarity is fashion. I say it because that is her lifeline: she has her own business Carousel Boutique which shows that she does have some business sense and smarts. After all, her shop is used frequently by celebrities and other designers when they look for something new and fresh. That list includes Sapphire Shores, Hoity Toity and Princess Cadence if someone wants a couple examples. But fashion is her passion and she's damn good at it. She designs dresses for all her friends for the Grand Galloping Gala and shows off some well done garments for herself such as some very unique hats while in Canterlot and rubbing hooves with the social elite. Rarity can take very little materials and make not only a stylish outfit but also an amazing hairstyle like when Trixie first arrives in Ponyville where she designs a dress using Trixie's curtain. No job is too tough for Rarity as she takes on the task of designing Princess Cadence's hair for the representative of the Equestria Games in order to secure the games' location in the Crystal Empire; it looks bad at first but the second time, she nails it. Not only is she a pony in tune with design, she's an excellent decorator. She's seen decorating the room for the Summer Sun Celebration as well as designing beautiful bird nests for Winter Wrap Up (despite trying to fix Twilight's attempt at saying a nest which nearly made her break down).
With how she is on fashion, one can expect a bit of an ego. A bit doesn't cover it: remember when I said that it's about the size of Canterlot? It's pretty much fucking true with how much she likes the spotlight. All eyes should be on her and her designs because they are meant to pop out. And if everypony is fixated on another, she will find a way to get in there and shine. When Rainbow Dash is getting ready for a competition in Cloudsdale, her friends are trying to figure out how to support her and be able to walk on the clouds since only Fluttershy was a pegasus. This ends up with Twilight making Rarity huge butterfly-like wings and the attention she got went to her head. Like a lot. So far, she ends up making Dash even more nervous and crazy when she enters the competition herself. She also expresses to Twilight about how jealous she is of Fluttershy having a career as a model and the idea of Photo Finish choosing her instead of the fashionista...well, she hid it pretty well until she had to tell Fluttershy her true feelings.
Along with being somepony who adores the spotlight and design, she cannot stand dirt or mess. She hates getting dirty and refuses to touch mud unless it's a special mud mask (it pissed off Applejack during a sleepover) and will bitch and complain until she knows she has gotten her point across. That's also something she will not see eye to eye with when it comes to her little sister, Sweetie Belle. The young filly wishes to help her sister in designing and getting work done but ends up making a mess which annoys Rarity to no end. She refuses to do anything involving getting messy or dirty unless it's for a good cause; during the Sisterhooves Social, Rarity disguised herself as Applejack for Sweetie Belle by being covered head to hoof in mud and takes the earth pony's place in the race. In general she's not much of a nature girl but under the right reasons, she can be swayed. Just use her little sister.
Despite her...dislike of dirt, Rarity isn't afraid to use her wits and fight with the rest of the ponies when she needs to. While being held hostage by the Diamond Dogs as a gem detector, she uses her wits rather than hooves to keep them from trying to do much harm to her. She also bitches and moans a lot and it makes the dogs rather testy. Don't believe me? You asked for it. But it was her words and moaning that makes the dogs be grateful that the Mane Five show up to take her back, pretty much pushing Rarity out the door and telling them to GET OUT. She also can be physical when she wants to, showing that she can punch changelings like a boss, kick manticores, threaten teenage dragons, and smack others with her flank.
Rarity is one of six ponies who represent a great power known as the Elements of Harmony. In her case, she represents the element of Generosity. During Nightmare Moon's escape, she gives up her tail to a sea serpent because the alicorn decided to cut it off as she passed. She offers to make her friends the most beautiful gowns for the Grand Galloping Gala and even when they did not like the designs at first, Rarity still works herself to make them to what her friends desired. So even generosity can be taken advantage of and it shows in this case. She also learns lessons involving her element such as compromise; she's willing to get down and dirty for somepony she cares for such as Sweetie Belle or her friends as they go up a mountain to get a dragon to leave the area.
So Rarity does have a few flaws and her ego's a bit crazy. But the important thing is that she cares deeply about her friends and loved ones that she would walk through fire to make sure they're alright. She is generous, a fashionista, hates dirt, a big sister, and a good friend to have. If somepony makes friends with Rarity, not only would they have a style buddy but also a loyal friend.
Strengths:
~Fashion/Sewing: She’s a fashion designer and makes many outfits as her business. This can also go into decorating because she has been seen decorating rooms and birds’ nests.
~Business: As stated above, she does run a very successful business in the form of Carousel Boutique. She has gotten the attention of several fashion icons such as Hoity Toity and celebrities like Sapphire Shores with her designs.
~Gem Hunting: Rarity has a special spell where she can detect gems.
~Wits: Rarity uses her wits and tongue rather than her hooves to get a job done. While a captive of the Diamond Dogs, she bitches and moans quite a bit (“I am not whining, I am complaining! Do you want to hear whining?”) and it was enough for them to tell Twilight and the others to PLEASE TAKE HER AWAY. Also, she manages to get a couple of colts to pull their carriage for the Gala.
~Magic: Naturally unicorns have strong ties to magic but mainly for basic things and for talents tying into her special destiny.
~Generosity: She is the bearer of the Element of Generosity, cutting off her tail to replace part of a mustache for a sea serpent to making dresses for her friends for no charge are just a few examples.
~Fighting: Surprised to see this? Despite Rarity holding herself up as a dainty and classy lady, she can kick and punch like the rest of them. She’s kicked manticores and punched changelings as a couple examples.
Weaknesses:
~Ego: The girl’s got one as big as Canterlot.
~Dirt: SHE HATES GETTING DIRTY. While it has gotten a bit more tolerable as the seasons passed, she still hates getting messy unless she has to such as the Sisterhooves Social when she pretended to be Applejack while running with Sweetie Belle (she got covered head to toe in mud and ick). Also when the parasprites breeded and she saw how it was done, she was disgusted because it was gross and dirty. Also, rain is not her friend because she doesn't want her mane to get all nasty.
~Sweetie Belle: I know, odd to say her little sister is a weakness but it is true. She has been seen getting antsy and annoyed when Sweetie has tried to help her out in her shop. Also when she used her remaining sapphires for a later revealed artwork of the sisters in a sapphire heart.
~Overdramatic: “This is THE. WORST. POSSIBLE. THING!” Missing plates? Lost ribbon? Expect her to lose her shit. She even thought about exile when her fashions had gotten a bad review, it’s that crazy.
Possessions: Since she is a setting native pony, her belongings will be at her boutique and house. And like hell she’s going to take anything from the hospital. Too tacky.

I am Rarity and I own the Carousel Boutique ‘where every garment is chic, unique and magnifique!’ Since I have been seeing so many new faces in our humble little town, I would like to offer my services: for every newpony that arrives, I will personally make you an outfit of your choice. You can call it my own little welcoming to our wonderful place we call home.
